I'm Back!!

Hello Everyone,

When I started thinking about writing a blog the one thing that I worried about was falling behind.  Well mission accomplished it has been weeks since I have posted. I have been very busy.  The week before last I had one of my best friends from college, Courtney, come to visit.  We were all over the south of Sweden.  We visited Kalmar where we got to see the frozen Baltic Sea and tour a castle. We of course toured the small but beautiful Vaxjo.  We tried to see Malmo but the rain and cold weather interfered although we did step foot in Malmo.  Then we headed on to explore Copenhagen in the last few days.  We had a wonderful week. We took countless trains, buses, taxi's..ate hundreds of croissants, got lost..a lot, met lots of people for example crazy taxi drivers, laughed, cried (well I did when she left), stayed in hostels with complete strangers, and had the best Scandinavian Spring Break together.  It was so fun to introduce her to my friends and my life here.

Courtney with 3 of my favorite things, Kaitlyn & Melodie & Stallarna!!
After such a fun week it was back to reality...lucky my reality now includes a laptop which Courtney brought from my parents...thank goodness I was dying! As you might imagine when Courtney left I was a little sad and homesick which was weird because I can honestly say aside from missing american food and my car (I think about the coop all the time!!) I really have not been homesick until then.
When I saw this car in Denmark tears came to my eyes...did mom and dad send my car over...oh wait look at the license plate....needless to say I seriously miss my baby coop!
After Courtney left it was back to reality.  I had class Monday-Thursday and it was pretty uneventful really.  The only interesting thing I did was go on a school visit to a Vaxjo high school. This was really cool because in high school here you can decide whether you are going to go on to a university or go straight to work and whatever you choose effects the classes you take.  If you choose to learn a trade you spend the your time taking classes to learn your specific trade so when you graduate you are ready to work.  It was really neat to learn about all of the different classes they offered.

High school in Sweden is very different than in the states as you can see.  I thought there were good and bad things about their system.  For example can you imagine deciding your future at 15 years old?  Imagining some 15 year olds I think thats a bad idea but then I can look at myself and I have always know I wanted to teach. In my case it would have been great to spend high school starting pedagogy classes (teaching classes).  As I mentioned nothing too exciting happened this week.  Friday night I went to Stallarna and had a really good time.  Saturday night I just hung out with some friends and had a relaxing evening.  Tomorrow starts a busy week as my first class ends at the end of March so next week I start my second class.  I have 5 school visits to make up from when I missed class when Courtney was here so I will have a lot to report to you in the next week.  Sorry its been so long...hopefully that doesn't happen again but I'm not promising...
Until Next Time,
Allie
